My good friend and fellow paperback obsessive Teece first introduced me to the cover art of Ian Miller. He owns a particularly fine set of three H.P. Lovecraft anthologies which where published by Panther in the early 70s, each volume has a suitably odd jacket design by Miller. I have tried in vain for some time to obtain these books but they are extremely scarce and sell for ridiculously high prices.
I have however been able to assemble a small collection of other titles featuring wonderful examples of Ian Miller’s artwork which, in most cases continues across the spine and onto the back cover. I’m afraid I’m not willing to flatten these rather delicate books to photograph them so you’ll have to take my word for it. Here are eight of my favourites;

It’s a beauty alright, this is one of the wraparound covers too so it continues onto the back. I was lucky enough to find a copy of Miller’s Green Dog Trumpet book a while ago which is full of pieces like this one. I suspect a good rifle through the shelves is in order at some point Mr Lestaret.

I’d like to say soon but I fear the answer might be closer to never due to the scarcity of the Lovecraft titles. I’m sure I’ll find a few more more covers to share in the meantime though…

Simply stunning, I have some of the Bradbury covers (actually over the years Bradbury has had very very many fine sets of covers by numerous artists)
Seems he recently did the cover for ‘The Damned Highway’ which looks stunning, not sure if it is a new composition. There is a hint of Steadman about him, but it is more fluid and less brittle.
I have will have to scour my local bookshops! It is such a shame one cannot obtain prints of some of these.

They’re fantastic aren’t they? I really rate him as an illustrator, he’s just published an art book recently too which is well worth buying. I know he sells some prints and paintings via his website occasionally but they’re prohibitively expensive. Good luck in your search!
