From The Library Of The Unsubscriber No.13, Cover Shapes And Symbols

I’ve discovered that I have a number of books in my collection with rather experimental covers depicting shapes, symbols, manipulated photographs and other wonders of the late 60s & 70s . I thought it would be good to group them all together over a couple of posts, each one having a slightly different cover subject. It’s amazing to note that a lot of these progressive covers were uncredited although some were created by luminaries such as Richard Powers and Josh Kirby.

See what you think of my first batch of experimental covers, comments are as ever always welcome.

Love these. I’m sure that the Disch cover is the top view of a rather sturdy glass vase taken from above…

Thanks Mr Lestaret, I was a little unsure at first but am glad I ended up posting this one. You might well be right about the Disch cover! More to come next week….

That Laumer cover is very odd, isn’t it? Doesn’t it look like the corseted torso of a quadruple amputee with fire coming out of a place where fire really shouldn’t be coming from?

    Or is that just me?

    Calling Dr, Rorschach…

Very odd indeed my friend, although not quite as odd as what you’re seeing… Calling Dr Freud!

Any one of these covers would make a great Geranium Lake Properties comic. The one that most intrigues me is the cover for Time and Stars with its strange artifact like a film strip, but it has the texture of stone.

Glad you liked these Lin, I thought they might be to your taste. Time and Stars is an odd cover shot isn’t it? I thought it looked vaguely medical for some reason!
