For the past two weeks I’ve been featuring books that were purchased through eBay from a rather splendid chap called Otis who resides in the U.S. (here & here). This week is the turn of the heavyweights amongst my final selection, four hardbacks.
I don’t often buy these particular versions of novels preferring instead the cheaper and more readily available paperback editions. There’s also much more in the way of choice of cover artwork too but when these four beautifully wrapped titles appeared on my iPad screen, I knew I’d have to buy them. Here they are then in all their glory, let me know your thoughts via the comments as always.

Hi
This looks like a nice haul. Bester is such an excellent writer and Brackett is very good, I have the entire Best of Series in paperback and I have been very happy with them. Bob Shaw is a writer I have intended to read more of, his short story Light of Other Days was very good. I read it not long ago, and I have loved fishy type invasion stories since the Kraken Wakes by Wyndham. As for the Biggle, Galouye’s Dark Universe had fun with people in a cave who use echo location so a world of sign language sounds intriguing. Lots of reading fun for you.
Regards
Guy

For Bob Shaw I’d recommend “Other Days, Other Eyes” and “Night Walk”. The former Expands Light of Other Days into novel form with several linked stories. The latter is an SF adventure with the central theme being about how a blind man may see. The method used is rapidly becoming fact!

Another nice selection, my favourite this time is the Lloyd Biggle, and the book itself seems intriguing.
Take care, Bernie xxx

When I saw the Leigh Brackett cover, I thought, yeah! That one is going to be my favorite. But then I scrolled down to the Lloyd Biggle book and wow! The Stripes! The Black! The graphic mastery of the whole cover! Now it’s a toss up between the two, while I ping-pong between my psychedelic side and my black-and-white side.

It’s a tough call indeed between those two covers, there’s already been some praise for the Biggle title in the comments. I’m finding it tough to pick a winner so happy to call it a draw.
