When The Earth & The Moon Died

A few days ago I was sorting through some library shelves in a bid to tidy things up a little when I came across these two very similarly titled books. Mannheim’s novel tackles the destruction of the Earth whereas Savage takes his devastation a little farther afield – to the moon. After conducting some research, I also discovered that each novel was the sole publication for both authors.

I found the discovery of these two titles on the same shelf oddly pleasing in a purely random sort of way and so decided to share them here with you all. I hope that you enjoy these two tales of catastrophic devastation, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments as always.

    That is an interesting series of coincidences. I quite like the cover on the Mannheim and I love finding forgotten treasures on my shelves.

      You’re right about this being a happy coincidence Guy, it was still a surprise to pull out two such similarly titled books. I’d also go with the Mannheim cover as my favourite. All the best as ever.

    I suppose, in the case of Richard Savage, once you’ve written “One of the most startling novels of all time”, you might as well quit when you’re on top. 😉 I like the top cover, that space-age building looks like chunks of salt-water taffy.

      I suppose you have a point about the Savage novel although I do have several books that proclaim to be the most startling tale ever told. We don’t have salt-water taffy in the UK Lin so I’ve always see the Mannheim cover as a stack of ice cubes which I suppose is more or less the same idea.         I just realized it’s not salt-water taffy I was thinking of, but jelly nougats, which are cut up into cubes. I loved learning that the UK does not have salt-water taffy, which I would have assumed was a universal candy, and not just an American custom.

        I see what you mean by jelly cubes Lin, we have those in the UK. I’ve heard of salt water taffy several times now and have always fancied trying it despite its rather unappealing name.
